EMD was contacted to redesign the bearing assembly on a proprietary and patented tunnel boring machine.  The existing machine was analyzed, process conditions were studied and the resulting design was created.  The new assembly is easily rebuild-able, uses off the shelf parts to reduce cost and is mechanic friendly.
